The matter requires clarification in the following areas:
FAIR TERMS OF TRADING
When dealing with suppliers H. Smith Food Group plc will endeavour to deal openly, fairly and adhere to contract terms.
MODERN SLAVERY
H. Smith Food Group plc understands and appreciates that it shares a joint responsibility with its suppliers to ensure that no acts of modern slavery are perpetrated with any part of the product supply chain.
PROTECTION OF CHILDREN
Children can only be employed in situations that fully safeguard them from potential exploitation, which protects them from moral or physical hazards and long-term damage to health and which does not disrupt their education.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Health and Safety standards appropriate to industry and local/national authorities must be adhered to. In the absence of any such legislation suppliers will have in-place their own standards that show awareness to hazards and general well-being of employees.

FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION
Employees shall be free to join lawful associates: forced labour or coercion at work is unacceptable.

REMUNERATION
Pay will at least meet statutory minimum national or local law. Pay should also reflect what is needed to maintain family life above subsistence level.
APPLICATION AND MONITORING
All our suppliers will be issued with an Ethical trading questionnaire.
GRIEVANCE AND REMEDIATION
Where a human rights violation is identified, we will work with all parties involved to seek access to remedy, compensation, and justice for the victim. We will also investigate the root cause so that we can take appropriate steps to prevent such a violation reoccurring.
